I just added a couple more videos of the band I play in. One More River played at the Rinn United Methodist Church near Longmont, CO for the Cowboy Church service on November 16, 2011. It was a lot of fun and a group of great folks. I put up the video for the songs "What Kind of Man" and "Tighten Up Your Cinches". Hope you all enjoy.
Coming up in January is the 11th Annual Winter Gospelgrass Festival. It is happening at the West Bowles Community Church at 12325 West Bowles in Littleton, CO on January 14. Hi, welcome to my website. My name is Jody Nelson. I enjoy singing and playing gospel music, particulary gospel bluegrass and folk music. I got a rather late start in life playing stringed instruments, not picking up a guitar until I was 30 years old. Although I consider the guitar as my primary instrument, I also enjoy plinking around on the banjo, mandolin, mountain dulcimer, and hammer dulcimer, the latter two which I built myself. One of these days I'm going to pick up the fiddle which I got a while back and start learning to play something on it as I have time. I have played in our praise band at church for several years and now also play in a gospel bluegrass band called One More River. I have been influenced by a variety of musicians and styles of music - bluegrass, folk, blues, jazz, old-time gospel, and contemporary Christian. One of my favorite things is to take an old hymn and give it a bluegrass/folk flavor. Some of my favorite performers and influences include Norman Blake, Doc Watson, Alison Krauss, Tim O'Brien, Claire Lynch, Front Range, Anne and Pete Sibley, and the Carter Family. My wife, Kathy, ocasionally joins me for duets as well. When all is said and done, I can often be heard to respond after playing a song, "Something like that!" since each time it may be a little different. I hope you enjoy what you find on the page. I'll try to keep it updated with new things.
