Hi Everyone,
I hope all is well for everyone out there. The summer has come and gone. Its been busy with various festivals and performances around the region. The band I play in, OMR, played several venues this summer, the 13th Annual GospelGrass in Calhan, GospelGrass on the Divide in Monument, and the Evergreen Fine Arts Festival in Evergreen. We also played at an assisted living in Lakewood. Upcoming events include a performance at the Mountain Rose Acoustic Music Society event in Idaho Springs in December and then a Sunday morning gospel set at the 28th Annual Midwinter Bluegrass Festival in in February in Northglenn (http://www.midwinterbluegrass.com/). We are really looking forward to these upcoming performances. We hope to see some of you there.
My wife Kathy and I continue to perform monthly at an assisted living facility near our home and really enjoy bringing a smile to the faces of the residents there. I am also still playing on our praise band at church. So there is no lack of things to do along with all the other things of life.
Well, I have finally updated the blog. There are a couple of new "sepia" photos of the band and several new videos that I have posted. Also check out our ReverbNation website (see below under links) as we are hoping to get some new audio clips of a live performance uploaded. (not sure if they are up yet - if not check back in a couple weeks or so).
God bless,
Jody

Hi, welcome to my website. My name is Jody Nelson. I enjoy singing and playing gospel music, particulary gospel bluegrass and folk music. I got a rather late start in life playing stringed instruments, not picking up a guitar until I was 30 years old. Although I consider the guitar as my primary instrument, I also enjoy plinking around on the banjo, mandolin, mountain dulcimer, and hammer dulcimer, the latter two which I built myself. One of these days I'm going to pick up the fiddle which I got a while back and start learning to play something on it as I have time. I have played in our praise band at church for several years and now also play in a gospel bluegrass band called One More River. I have been influenced by a variety of musicians and styles of music - bluegrass, folk, blues, jazz, old-time gospel, and contemporary Christian. One of my favorite things is to take an old hymn and give it a bluegrass/folk flavor. Some of my favorite performers and influences include Norman Blake, Doc Watson, Alison Krauss, Tim O'Brien, Claire Lynch, Front Range, Anne and Pete Sibley, and the Carter Family. My wife, Kathy, ocasionally joins me for duets as well. When all is said and done, I can often be heard to respond after playing a song, "Something like that!" since each time it may be a little different. I hope you enjoy what you find on the page. I'll try to keep it updated with new things.
